A few months ago, I published one of my most successful articles to date, The Best Protocol for Quitting P*rn. It was a practical, step-by-step guide to help any man release himself from the grip of lust and sexual immorality.

After seeing how well readers received the protocol, I started thinking about other vices common to the modern man that could be somewhat easily solved by implementing the right protocol. While there surely are many, many vices to create protocols for (and I will in the future, if you guys like this one), the one that stood out the most to me was the habit of laziness and procrastination.

I think that —after p*rn— laziness is possibly the single most common vice that plagues young men today, and the one which most affects their chances to live a purposeful, happy life.

When I talk about laziness, I’m not talking about “rest”. Rest is necessary and honorable. Rest allows you to give God His due and helps you manage anxiety, stress, and other mental pressures. What I’m referring to is the lack of mental fortitude and discipline that leads to the avoidance of responsibilities, the postponement of action taking, and the disordered attachment to comfort and ease (in that sense, laziness is very similar to effeminacy).

You know, the kind of laziness that keeps you glued to your phone watching useless content instead of doing the work that you know you must do. Or the laziness that keeps you comfortable and warm in bed instead of getting up and working out when you’re supposed to. These are all forms of laziness that stem from deeper causes, and while they might not be easily defeated (it’ll take effort), there are simple steps you can take to finally become a man who takes action, keeps his word, and controls the vice of laziness.
